Future of Training

The Institute has kept pace with the time. The training syllabus has been revised and kept updated from time to time conforming to the climbing style of the present times. Apart from the Method of Instruction course, the Institute has introduced the Mountain Guide and the Search & Rescue series of courses.

NIM foresaw and realised the importance of Search & Rescue operations in the Indian context. The course is an important step to assist the Hill district authorities and other organisations all over India, to establish their own Search & Rescue cells. Similarly, the Mountain Guide course has been instituted with the aim of promoting tourism and also for making available 'Guide Services' for safe conduct of mountaineering and trekking groups in the Indian Himalayas.

This course is presently being run as a special course at the request of various agencies from all over the country. NIM is presently the only Institute in India conducting both these courses. In the future context as it is presently, the Institute will aim to indoctrinate its trainees with the correct mountain ethos. Climbing activity will be encouraged on technically more demanding and challenging routes in Alpine style, in an environmental friendly manner.
